Austin Slagle

Austin is an architectural engineering graduate of Lawrence Technological University, where he earned his master’s degree. His passion for lighting design began during a course at Lawrence Tech, where he discovered the powerful role lighting plays in shaping the architectural experience. That interest quickly evolved into a dedicated career path.

Austin joined Illuminart through a four-term co-op program, gaining hands-on experience before transitioning into a full-time role. Since then, he has contributed to a diverse portfolio of projects spanning retail, hospitality, workplace, higher education, residential, and exterior façade lighting. His notable project experience includes Dynatrace Detroit, the Dearborn Inn, Michigan State University Student Recreation and Wellness Center, Revel Steak Restaurant, and the Clinton-Macomb Public Library.

With a strong technical foundation and an appreciation for design, Austin approaches lighting with both an engineering discipline and an artistic medium. He is passionate about creating environments that enhance form, reveal architectural intent, and provide visual comfort. He believes thoughtful lighting should not only perform well but also create distinctive and memorable experiences.

Austin is an Emerging Professional member of the Illuminating Engineering Society, reflecting his commitment to continued growth and engagement within the lighting design community.
