For nearly two decades, 1550 Woodward was a boarded-up storefront. Today it’s one of downtown Detroit’s liveliest addresses, and the lighting is a big part of how it gets that across, from the sidewalk to the skyline.
Illuminart designed the lighting for all three venues and the facade. Outside, the light works with the dark brick, granite, and broad glass so the building holds its place in the historic district after dark. Passersby on Woodward can see the energy inside.
Each level has its own mood. Gilly’s Clubhouse spans two open floors built for game days, with lighting that keeps the room lively and the screens easy to watch. Up top, the Rooftop’s glass enclosure glows above the street at night while guests look out over the city. Downstairs, Saksey’s is reached through a rear alley entrance, and the light turns low and warm, closer to a 1970s Detroit neighborhood bar than a sports venue.
Three venues, one building, and a stretch of Woodward that’s lit up again.
