Michigan State University's Student Recreation and Wellness Center is the new heart of fitness and play on the East Lansing campus. The 293,000-square-foot facility sits just south of the Breslin Center and replaces the aging IM West building, giving students a place built around how they actually want to move, compete, and recharge.
The building was designed to feel open and welcoming. Large spaces flow into one another, so the energy of the place is visible from the moment you walk in.
There's room for every kind of workout. Strength and cardio floors, dedicated yoga and spin studios, and training rooms support individual goals. Basketball and volleyball courts, an indoor turf arena, an indoor running track, and golf and sport simulators keep the games going all year. Spartan Summit, a 47-foot climbing wall and the first indoor climbing wall on campus, rises above it all, and a hammock area gives students a place to slow down between classes.
The experience continues outdoors, with a large outdoor fitness space, an event space behind the south end of the building, seating areas, and bike parking. A 50-meter recreational pool rounds out the facility, able to host lap swim, water fitness, courses, and open swim at the same time.
