After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Geology, the pull of architecture and design was too much for Karl to resist. As part of the coursework while pursuing a Master’s Degree in Interior Design, Karl was introduced to the world of architectural lighting design, and knew that he’d found his career.
Though he began his career working in the hectic world of auto show and exhibit lighting, Karl quickly employed the lessons learned from that fast-paced environment to the more rigorous demands of permanent architectural lighting. He has gone on to work on a wide range of projects including retail, hospitality, office, higher education, residential, landscape and façade, both domestic and international. Through his experience working on multiple large international projects, Karl has an extensive knowledge of the challenges in working with global design teams, and international supply processes, but still delights in working on smaller local projects for the benefit of the community.
Karl is Lighting Certified (LC) through the National Council for the Qualification of Lighting Professionals, and is an active officer in the Michigan Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society, where he serves as Vice President. He has also served as a lighting design instructor at Eastern Michigan University and Lawrence Technological University.
