Experienced Mechanical Engineering Services

Peter Basso Associates' experienced mechanical engineering services specialize in designing mechanical systems that satisfy building owners and occupants – they are efficient, and they maintain a desirable environment.

Our ability to listen drives our design excellence. Peter Basso Associates' mechanical engineers strive to understand the owner’s needs and expectations early in the project, then identify a direction that meets those needs, balancing construction costs, maintenance costs and operational costs. Our mechanical engineers work closely with facility staff to integrate their design standards and equipment preferences. We work closely with the architect to document key elements that might impact engineering design, eliminating surprises later in the project.

The Peter Basso Associates MEP engineering design process involves senior mechanical engineers in brainstorming/review sessions that are done at the start of the project and at key milestones. Using our collective mechanical engineering expertise, we create our best ideas. A review team is maintained throughout the project, providing consistency from inception of design intent through completion of mechanical engineering construction documents. Budget construction cost estimates are reviewed and confirmed at each milestone.

Through the Peter Basso Associates' design process, the mechanical engineering project team understands what system is the best fit early in the project, incorporating the needs of the building owner and the architect, and delivering an environment that satisfies occupants.

Productivity Reflects Work Environment

Research on employee productivity demonstrates losses of 2 to 4 percent in poor work environments. In national surveys of office building occupants, typical complaints identify poor temperature control as a leading problem.

“Mechanical issues are the #1 source of post-occupancy complaints. Peter Basso Associates designs good systems that work, and follows through commissioning phases of their projects to facilitate fully functioning systems.”  – Architectural Firm Principal

Butterfield Hall Renovation | East Lansing, MI

Improvements were made to the current building systems and components of Butterfield Hall including maximizing mechanical and electrical system efficiencies, minimizing utility consumption, and increasing maintenance efficiencies and repairs to the roof and exterior facade for the aging student housing building, in order to meet proper code requirements. Learn More...

Fine Arts Building HVAC Renovation | Port Huron, MI

The 31,000 sf Fine Arts facility on the campus of Saint Clair Community College (SC4) was originally completed in 1976. Therefore, the existing mechanical and electrical systems had reached the end of their useful life and were in need of replacement. As part of a two-phased performance contract with Siemens Building Technologies, PBA provided basic mechanical engineering services and electrical design engineering services for the replacement of the SC4 Fine Arts Building’s select HVAC systems, including its existing constant volume, gas-fired, Dx cooling multi-zone HVAC equipment, with new energy efficient systems. Learn More...

Marine City Middle School HVAC Replacement Project, Marine City, MI

Mechanical engineering services for Marine City Middle School included replacement of the existing electric heating and direct expansion packaged terminal air conditioning units with hot water heating and direct expansion cooling unit ventilators; Learn More...

Existing North Building HVAC Renovation | Port Huron, MI

The existing 2-story SC4 North Building was built in 1920 and has an area of 58,885 gross square feet and 52,574 net square feet. The building houses faculty offices, instructional classrooms, laboratories, a gymnasium, and fitness area. Learn More...
