MECHANICAL ENGINEER

The ideal candidate has the following experience, education or qualifications:

  • Experience in engineering and designing any of the following mechanical systems:
    • HVAC Systems, including building load calculations, energy simulation and analysis, equipment sizing and selection, steam and hydronic heating, chilled water cooling and ducted air distribution systems.
    • Plumbing Systems, including domestic hot and cold water, sanitary waste and vent, acid waste and vent, and storm water systems. Experience should also include domestic water heating, sump and sewage ejector sizing and selection.
    • Temperature Control Systems, including pneumatic and electronic actuated systems. Direct Digital Controls and have a good working knowledge of systems options and control strategies.
  • Having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, PE preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • A thorough understanding of the coordination aspects of all design disciplines and how they impact the project.
  • Team-oriented problem solving skills and decision-making ability.
  • The ability to organize work and multi-task.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic and flexible.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an engineering-related curriculum from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience specific to building systems.

MECHANICAL ENGINEER - ENTRY LEVEL

Working within our design teams, candidates will:

  • Provide our partners with system design options including product, material and code research.
  • Design and document specific systems fully coordinated and integrated with all other building systems, as well as the building architectural and structural systems from the schematic level through construction administration.
  • Employ sustainable design principles and best practice approach to provide clients with the desired outcome in an efficient and sustainable manner.
  • Work together with the project manager, discipline lead engineer and all team members on assigned engineering tasks assuring technical expectations, schedule and manpower budgets are met.

 The following are desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience in the design and specification of one or more of the system types described above.
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an Engineering related curriculum.
  • Having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit experience desirable.
  • Thorough understanding of the coordination aspects of all design disciplines, and how they impact the project.
  • Team-oriented problem solving skills and decision making ability.
  • Ability to organize work and multi-task.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic and flexible.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Previous co-op or 6 months experience in Architectural Engineering industry. 

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

The ideal candidate has the following experience, education or qualifications:
  • Experience in engineering and designing any of the following electrical systems:
    • Power Distribution Systems, including medium and low voltage distribution systems, standby power applications, load calculations, short circuit and coordination studies, arc flash hazard.
    • Lighting Systems, including calculations, lighting controls, luminaire selections and architecturally integrated lighting systems.
    • Auxiliary Systems, including fire alarm systems, voice/data structured cabling systems, access control, CCTV and other low voltage systems design.
  • Having passed the Fundamental of Engineering exam, PE preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Thorough understanding of the coordination aspects of all design disciplines and how they impact the project.
  • Team-oriented problem solving skills and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to organize work and multi-task.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic and flexible.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an engineering-related curriculum from an accredited college or university.

TEMPERATURE CONTROLS ENGINEER/DESIGNER

Peter Basso Associates Inc. is seeking an engineer or designer experienced in Building Automation and Temperature Controls systems. Candidate must have an understanding of mechanical heating ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and electrical systems with ability to create associated temperature control details for building construction.

Job Tasks (may include the following):

  • Temperature Controls design for HVAC systems in commercial office buildings, K-12 Education, Higher Education, Hospitals, and Laboratories.
  • Coordinate with other company departmental trades (mechanical, plumbing and electrical) to understand conceptual design and apply controls.
  • Meet with clients to determine goals and expectations of Building Automation System and Temperature Controls design.
  • Survey and analyze existing control systems for either upgrade or replacement.
  • Write project specifications for building automation systems utilizing direct digital control systems and temperature control related components.
  • Evaluate new temperature control related systems and products.
  • Provide cost estimates for building automation systems and temperature controls.
  • Review temperature control shop drawings consisting of control schematics, sequences of operation, bill of materials, wiring diagrams.
  • Review equipment cut sheets for controls related functionality.
  • Meet with contractors to assist in construction coordination.
  • Perform site surveys of in-construction projects and document observations.
  • Perform system checkout (punch list) activities.
The ideal candidate has the following experience, education or qualifications:
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in design of building automation and temperature control systems.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in either mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Knowledge of local and national codes. 

MECHANICAL DESIGNER

The ideal candidate has the following experience, education or qualifications:

  • Experience in designing any of the following mechanical systems:
    • HVAC ductwork sizing and layout, HVAC load calculations, HVAC pipe sizing and layout.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
  • A thorough understanding of the coordination aspects of all design disciplines and how they impact the project.
  • Team-oriented problem solving skills and decision-making ability.
  • Ability to organize work and multi-task.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic and flexible.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work together with the project manager, discipline lead engineer and all team members on assigned engineering tasks assuring technical expectations, schedule and manpower budgets are met.
  • Associate's Degree or studies toward a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an Engineering-related curriculum from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience specific to building systems.

ELECTRICAL DESIGNER

The ideal candidate has the following experience, education or qualifications:

  • Experience in designing any of the following electrical systems:

  • Associate's Degree or studies toward a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or an Engineering-related curriculum from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience specific to building systems.

PLUMBING DESIGNER/ENGINEER

Seeking highly motivated individual with a minimum of 1-3 years of experience in plumbing design and AutoCAD who is willing to grow and apply their skills in the design of plumbing and fire protection systems in commercial, education, healthcare and laboratory facilities.  Successful candidate will be a team player and will excel at problem solving, decision-making, and multitasking. 

CAD SPECIALIST

Essential job duties:

  • Plot drawings according to Company standards
  • Set up jobs for design team
  • Convert drawings from client to be used by the design team
  • Picking up red marks made by engineers
  • Follow the appropriate project processes and adhere to company standards
  • Prepare drawings of existing mechanical and electrical systems
  • Making copies of original drawings

The ideal candidate has the following experience, education or qualifications:

  • AutoCAD basic - intermediate classes
  • Must be interested in the architectural and/or engineering field
  • Must be responsible and available to work overtime
  • Revit knowledge is a plus
  • Good communication skills and able to multi-task

WINTER 2018 ENGINEERING CO-OPS

As a college co-op at PBA, you will experience hands-on learning in our full-service, award-winning engineering firm in Troy, Michigan. PBA is led by qualified professionals skilled in the fields on mechanical and electrical engineering, energy management, commissioning, communication technologies, and architectural lighting design.

Based on your career path, you will also assist engineers in the design of building mechanical systems including HVAC, temperature controls and plumbing or with building electrical systems, including lighting and load calculations. The overall experience will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the exciting field of MEP engineering and the tools used in the professional building design and construction industry.

Requirements:

Students should be enrolled in an accredited four year college, pursuing an undergraduate degree in the mechanical or electrical engineering field, and able to demonstrate a basic understanding of engineering fundamentals.
