The new offsite 40,000 sf reference laboratory houses the following departments and spaces: 2,025 sf of Administration space; 2,237 sf for Pathology; 2,430 sf for Specimen Processing; 608 sf for Referral Test Distribution; 2,000 sf for Cytology; 3,000 sf for Outreach; 10,000 sf for Molecular Biology; 3,000 sf for Special Chemistry; 3,000 sf of Mechanical and Common Space; 2,500 sf for Histology and 6,000 sf for Toxicology. Departments, which include approximately 70 staff members, were relocated from Sparrow’s Saint Lawrence Campus and its Main Laboratory.
The main laboratory renovation was designed to improve production efficiency and included the installation of lab automation equipment. The project also included the evaluation and modification of HVAC and electrical systems that served the main laboratory. The lab was kept fully operational during the renovation and was completed in four phases.
Both projects are pursing LEED certification.
