Grand Rapids, Michigan
In collaboration with Grand Valley State University, Consumers Energy developed the John G. Russell Leadership Center on the Pew Campus in Grand Rapids. The 3-story, 31,000 square foot facility serves as a training center for leadership and professional development.
MEP engineering design services provided by Peter Basso Associates included heating, cooling, plumbing, power, and lighting systems. Opting for several sustainable design features, the owner established a goal for design to meet the requirements of LEED V4.0 criteria for a Silver rated building. The low flow plumbing fixtures and solar panel powered sensor type flush valves and faucets are expected to reduce water use in the new space by approximately 40% below the Energy Policy Act of 1992.
Spaces within the center include reception/registration lobby, offices, conference rooms, collaboration spaces, break-out spaces, a learning lab, and general building support areas. When not in use by Consumers Energy personnel, the spaces are often used by GVSU facility and students.
