Whole Building Assessment

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan

Mid Michigan College elected to participate in the Consumers Energy Smart Buildings Program for three buildings on its Mt. Pleasant campus. As participants in the program, facility owners are requested to commit to implementing the low cost and/or quick payback (<1.5years) measures identified by the Assessment. The Program provides a focused assessment of a building’s operation, maintenance and infrastructure. The team at Mid Michigan collaborated with energy efficiency experts at Peter Basso Associates Inc., a Consumers Energy preferred service provider, to identify key metrics and methods in facilities that achieve high performance. The assessment included a Facility IQ Test, and a comprehensive list of energy saving Facility Improvements Measures (FIMs) the following campus facilities:

  • Herbert D. Doan Center for Science and Health Technologies: a 57,800 square foot laboratory and classroom building, constructed in 2007.
  • Center for Student Services: a 15,000 square foot student services building, constructed in 2010.
  • Center for Liberal Arts and Business Building: a 99,659 square foot classroom and office facility, constructed in 2013.
