Mt. Pleasant, Michigan
Mid Michigan College elected to participate in the Consumers Energy Smart Buildings Program for three buildings on its Mt. Pleasant campus. As participants in the program, facility owners are requested to commit to implementing the low cost and/or quick payback (<1.5years) measures identified by the Assessment. The Program provides a focused assessment of a building’s operation, maintenance and infrastructure. The team at Mid Michigan collaborated with energy efficiency experts at Peter Basso Associates Inc., a Consumers Energy preferred service provider, to identify key metrics and methods in facilities that achieve high performance. The assessment included a Facility IQ Test, and a comprehensive list of energy saving Facility Improvements Measures (FIMs) the following campus facilities:
The goal of the assessment was to analyze building energy performance and provide recommendations for low cost improvements to reduce energy consumption. The scope included major HVAC equipment and temperature controls. PBA reviewed the design documents, conducted building walkthroughs, and worked together with facility staff to discuss maintenance issues, building operations, and opportunities for improvement. PBA reviewed the building utility data to determine current energy consumption and utility rates. The building energy performance was compared to a benchmark to evaluate building energy performance against the national median. The final report provided to Mid Michigan College includes a list of recommendations with opinion of probable implementation cost and simple paybacks.
